The LEES grant audit team are proud to be members of the UK’s Association of Research Managers and Administrators. As a founding member of the Audit and Compliance Special Interest Group, we assist other members with their specific questions around grant audit procedures and eligible costs. At a wider level, we attend ARMA conferences and feed into discussions around the financial administration of Research Grants.

 

 

 

 

 

Vision2020 1Vision 2020: The Horizon Network is a hub for connecting participants in the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme. As an expert member, LEES contribute to the network by providing grant audit services and grant expertise to members. LEES attend Vision 2020 events to participate in current discussions around the Horizon 2020 programme as it develops. This ensures we keep up to date on the current issues facing participants.

NCURA Annual Conference – Washington D.C – Aug-17

The NCURA Annual Conference is the main event for Research Administrators handling US Federal Funding. Now in its 59th year, this meeting brought together over 2,000 research administrators from across the globe. LEES attended to learn about key current issues for UK organisations in receipt of US Federal Funds, and to gain clarity on some of the complex issues emerging as a result of the  Uniform Guidance applicable to US Federal Awards. We produced a summary of issues relevant to UK Research Organisations.

 

 

 

 

ARMA Annual Conference – Liverpool – Jun-17

The Association of Research Managers and Administrators‘ annual conference is a key event for anyone working within the field of Research Management. The annual conference is built around members sharing best practice and discussing current issues on topics across the field of Research Management, from pre-award to post-award. LEES attended with a promotional stand to network with delegates and co-chaired a session on audit and compliance as part of ARMA’s Special Interest Group in this field. Demystifying Horizon 2020 Audits – Cambridge – May-17

LEES gave three training sessions to administrators, researchers and investigators involved in Horizon 2020 projects, with the overall aim of enabling participants to prepare for financial audits. The sessions included specific details of the evidence required at audit and a focus on specific audit procedures that may cause sticking points compared to the previous programme, FP7.

 

 

 

 

 

INTERREG V – NorthWest Europe – First Level Control Seminar – London – Mar-17

We attended the first training session for First Level Controllers under the new INTERREG V programme for NorthWest Europe. The day ensured that we are fully cognizant with the complex rules associated with this funding stream in its latest programme.

 

 

US-Swiss Grants Day – EPFL- Lausanne – Feb-17

Jonny and Ellen presented two workshops on financial issues in US Federal Funding and how to prepare for a US Single Audit at the US-Swiss grants info day, hosted by EPFL. The presentations formed part of a wider programme events aimed at educating researchers and administrators about the opportunities available with US Federal Funds.

 

 

INTERREG V 2 Seas Mers Zeen – First Level Control Seminar – Lille – Sep-16

Jonny and Ellen attended the 2 Seas Programme‘s  initial First Level Controller seminar in September 2016 to receive bespoke First Level Control training in order to accurately certify financial claims under this new programme.

Brexit Statement

Like many of our clients, LEES were disappointed by the result of the EU referendum and the likely impact it will have on the research and development funding landscape in the UK. The key message emerging at this time is that UK institutions should continue to apply for EU funding and to take advantage of the opportunities available. Interreg VA 2 Seas Co-operation Fair – Surrey – Jun-16

Jerry and Ellen attended the Interreg 2 Seas Co-operation Fair in June 2016 to receive updates on the programme from the Joint Technical Secretariat on the new INTERREG programme and to network with potential project partners as this exciting new Cross-border co-operation initiative takes shape.

LEES presented at Vision:2020’s Financial and Contract Management workshop on Horizon 2020 grant administration. Jerry, Ellen and Jonathan presented to research organisations from across Europe, allowing participants to discuss key emerging financial issues in the programme.

 

 

 

 

 

Zurich

NCURA US Federal Funding Workshop – Zurich – Sep-15

LEES attended the National Council of University Research Administrators’ workshop on US Federal Funding grant administration. This key workshop ensured that we were up to date with the recent changes to the US government’s administrative guidance for grants to non-federal organisations. The three day workshop allowed us to network with grant recipients and clarify the new legislation with US experts, allowing us to understand how the new rules should be applied to UK and European organisations.

 

 

 

 

Vision2020 1LEES Join Vision 2020 as an expert member – Aug-15

LEES have joined the prestigious peer network: Vision 2020. The organisation aims to facilitate members in applying for and running projects as part of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme. As an expert member LEES will feed into discussions around the financial administration of awarded projects and keep up to date with the latest news and developments in this exciting area of grant funding.

UKRO Annual Conference 2015 – Birmingham – Jun-15

The UK Research Councils’ office in Brussels aims to maximise the UK’s involvement in EU funded research. Their 2015 conference, entitled “Horizon 2020 – Bridging Research and Innovation” focused on  lessons learned from the first 18 months of Horizon 2020 and on sharing best practices between delegates. LEES attended to keep up to date with the programme, feeding into discussions with delegates around the nuances of Horizon 2020 and how their organisations are adhering to the new financial guidelines. Presentations and further information about the event can be found on UKRO’s website.

Jonathan GrayLEES Strengthen their grant audit team – Nov-14

LEES welcomes the newest addition to their dedicated grant audit team. Jonathan Gray comes to LEES with seven years of experience in grant finance and administration within Higher Education Institutions. Jonathan will work as part of LEES specialist grant audit team conducting audit fieldwork engagements. His depth of experience in the financial management of grants, coupled with a highly focused background in Higher Education means that Jonathan will add real value to the existing team. EELGAEU Funding for Jobs and Growth 2014-20 – Cambridge – Nov-14

The East of England Local Government Association hosted an event focused on what is in store for Territorial Cooperation (INTERREG) ERDF Funding 2014-20 and the opportunities available for organisations in this area as the programme comes online. LEES attended to gain up to date information on the nature and types of funding available, as well as to network with those companies interested in the types of funding available, but unsure of how they deal with the financial administration of EU grants. NWEINTERREG IVB NWE First Level Control Workshop – London – Sep-14

INTERREG IVB Northwest Europe hosted a workshop for project beneficiaries and their First Level Controllers in order to keep project participants up to date with the complex eligibility guidelines associated with this programme. LEES were part of an expert panel and fielded questions on the interpretation of eligible costs guidelines and how the guidance should be developed for INTERREG V.
